In literature, Bristol was the birthplace of 18th century poets Thomas Chatterton and Robert Southey, and William Wordsworth also spent time in the city. Southey and his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge married the Bristol Fricker sisters and also had their work published by Joseph Cottle, who published Lyrical Ballads in 1798.
